In 2016, an unexpected series became the phenomenon of the moment for both Netflix and the audience itself. The OA managed to captivate everyone through the story of Prairie Johnson, a blind young woman who reappears after having been missing for seven years, now with her sight restored and without remembering anything about her past.
This mystery full of twists led to a somewhat less acclaimed second season, but above all, it elevated the names of Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, its creators, to another level. Now, their new work has finally arrived and has managed to surprise thanks to their skill in a family-friendly fiction. Its name is “A Murder at the End of the World” and can be watched on Disney Plus.
Technology + Thriller in an exciting series
“A Murder at the End of the World” is a science fiction thriller set in a futuristic hotel located in Iceland. The protagonist, Darby Hart (Emma Corrin), is a hacker who also doubles as a detective. She and eight others are invited to participate in a retreat, but when one of them is found murdered, the mystery takes center stage.
In addition to Emma Corrin, the series features other great actors: Harris Dickinson as Bill, Brit Marling as Lee Andersen, and Clive Owen as Andy Ronson. “Murder at the End of the World” manages to redefine the genre by blending suspense with technology in ways we’ve rarely seen on TV. Furthermore, despite its premise, it is suitable for all audiences.
With just 7 episodes, this series premiered this month and has become a small phenomenon. While it doesn’t seem poised to have the same impact as “The OA,” it stands out as a very interesting fiction worth considering.
