Those of you who watched television in the 1990s may remember a particular astrologer named Mystic Meg. She tried to predict which numbers would win the National Lottery, while she also wrote horoscope pieces for The Sun. She lived a long life, but she passed away recently at the age of 80.
After a local hospital admitted her for a severe case of the flu, she passed away. Dave Shapland, her agent, informed The Sun that she was by far Britain’s most famous astrologer. According to him, she had millions of followers worldwide and not just in the UK.
She had a regular spot predicting the National Lottery on BBC, but the show was removed in 1997 when they changed a few things. Mystic Meg returned a year later to thousands of followers that were happy to see her on television again. She was also an astrologer and made predictions for News of the World and publications in the US and Australia.
Personally, I haven’t heard of her before. In the 1990s, I was watching shows like The Smurfs and Brackenjan in my teens. I’m not even sure if Mystic Meg aired on our televisions at that time. However, it’s clear from all the Tweets and online messages that she was an icon to many others in the world.
The Sun has stated that they’ve lost an icon. With so many other astrologers now available online, we’ll have to wait and see who becomes the next British icon to take her place.
