Ridley Scott is famous, among many other sagas and films, for creating incredible historical movies set in the past. He did it with Christopher Columbus in 1492, with Maximus in Gladiator, and with Moses in Exodus. Now, he is about to try his luck with a new film of similar nature: the biopic of Napoleon.

Starring Joaquin Phoenix, the film will delve into the life of this 18th-century French conqueror. From the looks of it, the movie will explore the character’s rise to power as he falls in love with Empress Josephine, his wife. Now, a new trailer has been released, giving a clear glimpse into the visual aesthetic of the feature film:

We will experience Napoleon Bonaparte’s rise to power

In the trailer for Napoleon, we can see Joaquin Phoenix embodying the relentless Emperor in a captivating performance. From what is shown, we will witness his rise to power in 19th-century France and how he managed to thrive in a time when the country teetered between being one of the most powerful nations on the planet and witnessing the downfall of his empire.

Undoubtedly, this is a story that deserves to be told on the big screen, and while we have seen it adapted before, it has never been given the same texture and vision that Ridley Scott brings to this film. Alongside Phoenix, the movie features a stellar cast including Vanessa Kirby, Tahar Rahim, Paul Rhys, and Matthew Needham.

Napoleon is set to hit theaters on November 22, 2023, with strong ambitions to join the race for the Oscars. Furthermore, being an Apple production, it is highly likely that it will be released shortly after on the Apple TV+ platform.
