Despite the untouchable facade of pharmaceutical companies, the truth is that this industry hides a whole jumble of corruption, trafficking of interests and lack of responsibility in every way. Series such as Dopesick have been able to carefully deal with the shadows of the big corporations and have put the spotlight on their actions. Now, it is the turn of The Business of Pain, the new Netflix series starring Emily Blunt and Chris Evans.
In the film, we will follow in the footsteps of Liza Drake, played by Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada, Mary Poppins). She is an unemployed single mother who needs to take care of her daughter’s medical costs, which puts her on edge. When she meets pharmaceutical rep Pete Brenner, played by Chris Evans (Captain America), Liza gets caught up in a whole plot full of extortion, blackmail and greed that she didn’t expect. After seeing the dire consequences of the pharmaceutical company’s actions, Liza must balance her priorities.
In addition to the well-known Emily Blunt and Chris Evans, the cast includes other names such as Andy Garcia, Catherine O’Hara, Chloe Coleman, Jay Duplass and many more.

The plot of The Business of Pain is based on the book of the same name by Evan Hughes (Pain Hustlers: Crime and Punishment at an Opioid Starup) and is a comedy with dark undertones. The film is directed under the baton of David Yates, a director well known among Potterheads (Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts) and also a BAFTA winner.
As for its premiere, we will be able to see it on October 27 on Netflix, as long as we have an active subscription to the platform. However, a week before (October 20) it will be available in some exclusive movie theaters in the United States. Here below we leave you the trailer so you don’t miss anything.
