Netflix has launched an innovative video game based on the seventh season of the acclaimed series Black Mirror, focusing on the episode starring Will Poulter as Colin Ritman. This game, titled Thronglets, is presented as a canceled Tuckersoft title from 1994, now reimagined to bring to life adorable creatures that players must care for and that can multiply. However, the platform warns that these adorable creatures will not only invade your phone; they could take over your life.
Expanding the Black Mirror multiverse
The gameplay of Thronglets not only focuses on the care of these virtual pets, but also explores the depths of human nature and the consequences of digital obsessions. Netflix has described this as an experience that invites reflection on our relationship with technology. At the end of the game, players will have the opportunity to take a personality test and share their results online.
In addition, users will be able to unlock videos from the Ritman Retrospective, which are presented as part of a documentary about the character of Poulter, providing additional context to his story in the Black Mirror universe. The game is available for free through the Netflix app on mobile devices, with no in-app purchases, allowing barrier-free access for all subscribers.
Charlie Brooker, creator of the series, has commented on the creative process behind Poulter’s appearance in this episode, noting his fascination with the character and the joy of bringing him back. With the seventh season of Black Mirror now available on Netflix, this new game represents a unique extension of the series’ narrative universe, encouraging players to reflect on their digital interactions while immersing themselves in a fun and creative experience.
