Beef is one of the series that has thrived the most through word-of-mouth in recent years. Netflix has confirmed its production of a second season, created by Lee Sung Jin. The first season, starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, focused on a road rage incident that sparked a series of revenges between the characters. However, the new season will take a 180-degree turn in its narrative.
Different Arguments, But There Will Always Be Conflict
Instead of exploring road rage, the story will focus on a young couple who witness a tense fight between their boss and his wife, in a context that delves into the differences in social classes. The official synopsis highlights that the plot will unfold in the elitist world of a country club and its wealthy Korean owner, promising a critical and provocative approach.
Charles Melton, known for his role in Riverdale, and Cailee Spaeny, from Priscilla, will be the new protagonists. The series will also feature renowned actors such as Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan in the roles of the antagonists. The cast is complemented by other talented actors, suggesting a significant display of acting skills for this new narrative.
The second season will consist of eight episodes of 30 minutes each, with Lee Sung Jin remaining as showrunner and executive producer. Although Yeun and Wong will not appear on screen, both will return as executive producers, along with original collaborator Jake Schreier.
On the other hand, Lee has stated that he has ideas to expand the series beyond the second season, even mentioning that he had in mind three seasons before Netflix decided to take an anthology approach. However, a release date for this new installment has not been set, leaving fans waiting for more information on the matter.
