Firefly Studios has surprised real-time strategy game fans by announcing the return of one of the most iconic titles in the series: Stronghold: Crusader. This revival comes in the form of a remastered version called Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition, which will be available on July 15 on PC via Steam.
An Unexpected Remaster with Lots of New Material
This anticipated remaster is not limited to a simple graphical enhancement of the original released in 2002. With the aim of capturing the essence of the classic game, Firefly Studios has incorporated several new features. Among the additions are eight new playable units, four lords to confront, and multiple additional campaigns. Players will also enjoy larger maps and the possibility of playing in cooperative mode. Additionally, the remastered version will feature compatibility with the Steam Workshop, allowing for the creation and use of custom maps, which will expand the gameplay possibilities.
The idea for this remaster largely arises thanks to the unwavering support of the community. Nick Tannahill, a member of Firefly Studios, expressed his gratitude towards the players who remain committed to the title, creating mods and participating in multiplayer mode. “We wouldn’t be doing this if it weren’t for those who continue to play,” Tannahill commented, adding that they are eager to receive feedback from players through upcoming public demos.
Interested parties will have the opportunity to try the new content before the final release. A demo will be available today, January 20, at 18:00 (Spanish peninsular time), allowing players to delve into the experience offered by this new edition. Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition promises to revitalize the essence of the classic, attracting both new players and veterans of the saga of this classic strategy genre.
