The iconic video game magazine Game Informer has announced its return after its sudden closure in August 2024. In an official statement, the Game Informer team shared the exciting news, stating: “The whole team is back and we are eager to reconnect with you”. This return comes thanks to the acquisition of the magazine by the video game studio Gunzilla, which has also re-hired all the staff who worked on the publication before its closure.
One of the veteran media outlets in the US makes a grand return
Matt Miller, editor-in-chief of Game Informer, explained that the rehiring of the team ensures the continuity of the magazine’s identity: “We are committed to maintaining an unbreakable identity of who we are and what we represent”. Gunzilla has promised that Game Informer will operate independently, ensuring that “100% of the decisions about what we cover and how we do it will come from our editorial team.” Miller emphasized that Gunzilla recognizes the potential of Game Informer and its desire for the magazine to operate without external pressures.
In addition to the reactivation of its website, which already has many years of accumulated content, Game Informer has confirmed the return of its print magazine. Ethe team’s goal is to launch a “bigger and better” version than before, with additional membership and subscription benefits. Miller also mentioned the intention to expand audiovisual content, such as videos and live broadcasts, as well as diversify the voices and partnerships that will contribute to its coverage.
More details about membership and subscription options are expected to be revealed in the near future, and interested parties are encouraged to create a new Game Informer account to stay updated on the news. Before its closure, Game Informer was one of the longest-running video game media outlets in North America, founded in 1991 and unexpectedly closed by GameStop, leaving its staff without warning while they were in an advanced production process for their next issue.
