The One Piece live-action has turned out to be a resounding success. Although doubts were well-founded, considering how poorly anime live-action adaptations have fared in recent years (especially those on Netflix), the streaming platform has proven itself to be above and beyond expectations. One Piece has shattered several viewership records on Netflix and has become an unparalleled triumph. Now, all that’s left is to await confirmation of the second season.
But the eight-episode series itself makes it clear that they have plans for the future, and for this, we only need to look at the post-credits scene that hints at a new character. The post-credits scene of One Piece, explained
The end of the first season of One Piece follows a tradition in the manga: we see Luffy’s bounty and how different characters in the series’ world react to it, from Shanks to Mihawk. However, after the credits, we see someone else reacting to this bounty.
Completely from behind, a character looks at Luffy’s wanted poster. They are smoking a cigar, and with the cigar’s fire, they burn Luffy’s image on the poster as smoke starts to rise. It’s quite a fierce character introduction, but for those who have followed the anime, it’s very logical who it is: Smoker.
Captain Smoker, nicknamed the White Hunter, is one of Luffy’s main adversaries during his early adventures. He’s a Marine who despises pirates and is one of the most recognized in his category. His power also marks a turning point in the anime. He possesses the Devil Fruit power of the Moku Moku no Mi, which allows him to turn his entire body into smoke.
Smoker is undoubtedly a rival who will make waves in the early episodes of the second season of the anime. We still don’t know who will bring him to life, but if everything goes well, we’ll have news about him soon.
