Back in the summer of 2004, Nintendo GameCube users received Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, a video game that didn’t attract as much attention as other famous Mario titles, but whose quality was beyond doubt.
True to what Nintendo has been doing with Nintendo Switch since the beginning of the generation, the Japanese company has decided to bring it back to life with a major remaster. We’ll tell you everything you need to know about this new version.
What are the news?
When it comes to talking about a remaster, the first thing that one always looks at is, of course, the graphic section. What would it be without a change in the visual look? Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has done an incredible job.
Just by watching the comparative videos between the Nintendo GameCube version and the Nintendo Switch version, the difference is palpable: higher resolution, better definition, new designs in the scenarios, and much more. The best thing, we repeat, is to watch a video to see the changes undergone in this excellent remastering work.
On the other hand, this Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door also comes with an updated soundtrack. This is quite common in good remasters, as all advances in the audio field are taken advantage of to reach a better outcome. However, the main peculiarity of this modification comes with a very interesting extra: the possibility of taking a look at the old edition if desired.
The Nintendo team has created audio sections and illustrations where you can listen to both the original version and the new soundtrack, as well as view sketches of the characters and environments. It is a very rewarding additional detail for all Mario lovers, especially for those who enjoyed the original release.
Continuing with the news, in this version of Nintendo Switch a new improved hint system has been introduced. The idea behind this is that the player doesn’t get lost and always knows where to go next. Once again, it’s an implementation that adds and doesn’t subtract, as it depends on the player whether they want to choose it or not.
To finish with the new additions, this edition also includes a fierce Toad that will give us countless combat tips. In addition, a new hidden “pipe room” is included under Villa Viciosa, a room that allows us to quickly and easily return to areas that have already been completed (something very useful). The traditional fast travel to make the journey more enjoyable. Always welcome.
What does Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door tell us?
As we mentioned in the first paragraph, in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door we have a video game released two decades ago for Nintendo GameCube. In this adventure, Mario once again adopts that paper-sticker format that is characteristic of certain games in the series, where humor and fun are the predominant note.
In The Millennial Door, Mario travels to Villa Viciosa to help Princess Peach search for a treasure, but the surprise, as always, is that Peach has disappeared from the map. Mario will have to search not only for the princess, but also for the legend of the star crystals while overcoming countless dangers and problems.
Alongside Mario, Peach, and the aforementioned Toad, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door also includes other characters such as Yoshito, Claudia, or Xenon and the X Army, the band of villains who pursue the star crystals. The whole adventure unfolds in the characteristic paper format in cardboard scenarios. Players will enjoy turn-based battles until they defeat all the dangers.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is now available for Nintendo Switch for a price of 59.99 euros.
