Pokémon TCG Pocket is (unsurprisingly) taking the world by storm. Predicting that it would do so was so easy that no one would have paid us to do it. It’s Pokémon. It’s the Pokémon card game. It’s free. It focuses more on collecting than on playing the game. It was literally impossible for it not to work as well as it has. But even in the most optimistic perspectives, it was hard to imagine the extent to which it has succeeded. Because the numbers the game is achieving are no laughing matter.
According to the analysis website AppMagic, Pokémon Magic TCG Pocket has already raised more than 200 million dollars on the App Store and Play Store. And although half of this money was raised during the first week, it remains an absolutely staggering figure.
The game, which was released on October 31st, is based on collecting Pokémon cards. Being able to open two packs of 5 cards a day, expandable thanks to the game’s free and paid currency, it is perfectly possible to play without investing a single euro in it. But it is also true that its subscription, costing €9.99, allows us to open two extra daily packs, in addition to a cosmetic battle pass.
Pokémon TCG Pocket is not just about collecting: it’s also about playing
On the other hand, Pokémon TCG Pocket also offers the possibility to play the Pokémon card game. Although it is a simplified version of it. Playing with only three trophies and 20 cards, it is an easier version of the physical game. This will help many people who might initially be interested only in the card collecting aspect to get into the game. Especially because of how it associates part of the game’s rewards with the game matches.
Pokémon TCG Pocket is available for Android through the Play Store and on iOS through the App Store. And as we know, new card collections will arrive in the game early next year – something that will undoubtedly help to continue increasing its already spectacular figures.
