Juan Gómez-Jurado is the most widely read Spanish author in recent years, and among all his novels, one stands out above the rest in terms of readership: “Reina Roja“. Released in 2018, this thriller novel sold over 2.5 million copies and has become one of the most popular thrillers in the history of our country.
As it couldn’t be otherwise, especially considering it’s written with a direct narrative almost like a script, “Reina Roja” had to soon make its way to the audiovisual realm. Amazon Prime Video has acquired its rights to turn it into a top-tier fiction series. Finally, we’ve received the images of what we’ll soon see on the streaming platform.
One of the future most successful series in our country
In the first images of “Reina Roja,” we can see the main protagonists, Antonia Scott and Jon Gutiérrez, portrayed by actors Vicky Luengo and Hovik Keuchkerian, whom Gómez-Jurado himself has assured are the best possible casting choices. We also catch a glimpse of Mentor, their superior, played by Alex Brendemühl, and Nacho Fresneda as the villainous Ezequiel.
The official synopsis of the series makes it clear that it will be a thriller that captivates many and sets the bar high in a first-class case:
“Reina Roja portrays the misfortunes of Antonia Scott, who, with an IQ of 242, is the smartest person in the world. This fact leads her to participate in the Reina Roja police project, whose secrecy causes a real stir on the international scene. Meanwhile, the protagonist’s life is in turmoil: her husband is in a coma, and she has a complicated relationship with her son.”
Antonia will be assigned to investigate the murder of a powerful magnate’s son, accompanied by Jon Gutiérrez, a Basque police officer who is openly gay and will become her biggest support. All under the watchful eye of Mentor, the head of this mysterious project.
