Remedy hints at a possible release of Firebreak for Nintendo Switch 2

Firebreak, the highly anticipated cooperative shooter in development by Remedy Entertainment, known for titles like Control and Alan Wake, will be released this summer and will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. As the release details draw closer, fans have begun to speculate about a possible version of the game for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

The future of Firebreak

Mike Kayatta, the game’s director, told Kotaku that although they are currently focused on development for the confirmed platforms, they do not rule out the possibility of bringing Firebreak to Switch 2 in the future. We are very busy developing the game for launch, so we haven’t thought about Switch 2 yet, but things can always change, Kayatta stated.

Remedy has expressed a particular interest in ensuring that Firebreak runs optimally on low-end PCs and has suggested that the game could be verified for Steam Deck. This has led some to rumors suggesting that the Switch 2 could have similar specifications, which could make its eventual adaptation to Nintendo’s console easier.

The title will be launched in an accessible business model, being available through PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass at its release. Additionally, Firebreak will feature free post-launch DLC. This approach seems to align with the growing trend of mid-priced games that prioritize player experience and additional content at no extra cost.

However, although Firebreak is canonical in the Control universe, a specific exhibition event for the Nintendo Switch 2 has not yet been confirmed, which is expected to have a major announcement on April 2. With the overwhelming success of the original Switch, many anticipate strong third-party support, further raising expectations for titles like Firebreak, but at this moment, the availability of the game for Switch 2 remains an unknown.
