In a recent twist within the ‘Star Wars’ universe, the character Baylan Skoll, previously portrayed by the late Ray Stevenson, will be reinterpreted for the second season of the series ‘Ahsoka’.
This reinterpretation of a deceased actor or one who is no longer present is not strange in the franchise, where actors like Donald Glover and Ewan McGregor have managed to reprise iconic characters, capturing the essence of the original performances.
Rory McCann, known for his outstanding performances in ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Hot Fuzz’, will take on the role of Baylan Skoll in its new incarnation.

During the Star Wars Celebration event, images were revealed of McCann wearing the character’s distinctive dark robes, wielding a red lightsaber, in line with his appearance in the first season.
The decision to recast Baylan Skoll has been made with deep respect for Stevenson’s work, who passed away in 2023 due to a heart condition, just before the premiere of the first season of ‘Ahsoka’.
Dave Filoni, creator of the series, praised Stevenson as “the most beautiful person on screen and off it”, reflecting the great impact he had on his colleagues and the audience.
The filming of the second season of ‘Ahsoka’ will begin soon, and its premiere on Disney+ is anticipated to be in 2026. McCann joins a main cast that includes Rosario Dawson, Lars Mikkelsen, and Eman Esfandi, along with the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. This change not only represents a challenge for McCann but also underscores the importance of ongoing storytelling in the ‘Star Wars’ saga.
