One of the most intriguing offerings from HBO on an international level is ’30 Coins.‘ The production company behind series like ‘Succession,’ ‘The Last of Us,’ and ‘House of the Dragon’ gave Álex de la Iglesia the opportunity to create his own authentic world of horror in the first season, and now that the second season is about to arrive (on October 23), it’s judgment time.

Will it live up to the first season? Will it maintain that spirit of a great horror role-playing adventure that characterized this series so well? All these questions and many more will be answered soon, but for now, critics have already seen some of its episodes and have drawn their own conclusions.

Is Season 2 of ’30 Coins’ worth it?

Although it already has a legion of fans, Álex de la Iglesia’s series is not for everyone. However, it does seem to be for the critics, at least in its early reviews. Below, we share some comments from the leading national critics:

A blend of folk horror, storytelling with monsters, conspiracies, magical objects like keys, grimoires, or staffs, underworld horrors, and even the wrathful gaze of God. We witness the fusion of mysticism, esotericism, and quantum technology that, mind you, literally opens the doors to a new dimension for the series. What a delight for fantasy-hungry viewers!” – Raquel Hernández Luján, Hobby Consolas

A powerful return from Álex de la Iglesia that takes his biblical crisis in new directions, with as much scale and action as the imagination allows, although along the way, it loses the terror and monsters that gave it its identity.” – Jorge Loser, Espinof

“If the series debuted as a perfect feast for lovers of the fantastic and the gothic, with echoes of old works by Álex de la Iglesia and with a deep identity that gave the project the personality it needed, the second season of ’30 Coins’ is even bigger and more glorious. The excesses of the first season are magnified here, and at many moments, your jaw will drop as you won’t be able to contain it.” – David Cruz, Área Jugones

In conclusion, everything seems to indicate that this is a much larger and more ambitious season, although that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better than in its early stages.
