Since its release in 2015, Bloodborne has set a precedent in the soulslike genre, gaining over the years a devoted fan base that clamors for a remaster or remake of the acclaimed title. To this day, the game is only available on PS4 and PS5 without an update to improve its performance, making the desire for a new version increasingly urgent.

Two Bloodborne-related projects shut down by Sony

Recently, Sony has made decisions that have left Bloodborne fans with more questions than answers. The company has issued DMCA claims against two community-developed projects: a mod that allowed playing at 60 FPS and a Bloodborne demake for PSX. The decision to halt these projects has caused surprise and speculation among players, who suggest that the Japanese company might be on the verge of an official announcement related to the IP.

One of the affected creators is Lance McDonald, who has hinted that Sony’s moves might be related to a broader strategy. According to McDonald, the company might be removing fan projects to facilitate the release of an eventual remake or port of Bloodborne, which would allow them to register trademarks related to the title without competition from unofficial content. “What the hell are they doing?” the creator asks on social media.

For her part, Lilith Walther, responsible for the controversial demake and the Bloodborne Kart project, has confirmed that she received a claim similar to the one previously sent to the 60 FPS mod. The intervention of MarkScan Enforcement, the company hired by Sony to handle these claims, has intensified speculations about the company’s intentions regarding the franchise.

The gaming community remains attentive to any official news, and the desire to revive the dark and captivating world of Bloodborne continues to be a hot topic in the gaming ecosystem. Even if it seems that in terms of emulation, they still haven’t done anything about it.
