Once again, Steam breaks its own records. In 2024, almost 19,000 games were published on the platform, which is 4,000 more than last year.
This is revealed by the data from SteamDB.info, a website dedicated to collecting Steam usage statistics. Since 2020, Steam has been growing in games published year after year, and now the platform has set a new record again. In summary, 2024 has had the largest year-over-year jump in game releases ever recorded by Steam.
To put it in context, in 2020 Steam received 9,686 new games. Since then, the number has been increasing exponentially: in 2021, 11,307 were published, in 2022 there were 12,381, and in 2023, 14,310. As we hinted at the beginning, this year specifically 4,655 more games have been published than what was achieved in 2023.
Despite the large number of titles released, only 3,964 games managed to gain enough popularity to activate community profile features (trading cards, emoticons, etc.). Among the most valued of 2024, we find games like Balatro, Satisfactory, Black Myth: Wukong and MiSide, among many others.
However, many of the most popular games among the community already carry several years on their shoulders. Currently, the title that tops the list of the most played is Counter-Strike 2, followed by Dota 2 and PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. The top also includes games like Grand Theft Auto V, Palworld, Apex Legends and Stardew Valley.
If you want to know how many games released in 2024 you have played, you can always check your usage statistics through the Steam Replay, available for all Steam users.
