YouTube is testing a new button that, depending on who you ask, could keep you glued to the platform for hours. It’s called Play Something, a new option that would activate random video playback.
According to 9to5Google, this feature can be found in the YouTube app for Android. With Play Something, the platform would activate vertical orientation, the same used by YouTube Shorts, to display videos of all kinds regardless of their recording format.
The interface would be similar to shorts, as well as its functionality. By activating Play Something, we would see the Like and Dislike buttons on the right, along with comments and the share button.
However, this change is not exactly new. Some users already noticed in November how the Android app included this new black and white button that, when pressed, started playing Shorts arbitrarily.
YouTube continues to update with improvements for the user
YouTube continues to update the platform and incorporate new features, such as the new adjustable playback speeds. Users can also now enjoy a new PiP player, the creation of collaborative playlists, and the inclusion of custom covers in playlists.
YouTube also improves for televisions. Those who watch YouTube on a big screen will be able to see the Shorts accompanied by their comments on the right. The new design for televisions generally improves the space and makes navigation easier for users.
Another new feature, Sleep Timer, allows us to schedule videos so they don’t play endlessly if we fall asleep. When the time we have set passes, the platform completely stops the playback.
