Steam has just announced a significant update for VR players

Valve surprises the gaming community once again, just like they did a month ago with the beta, by releasing the new Steam VR 2.0. It's been four years in the making since its initial announcement.

Surprisingly and unexpectedly, Valve released a highly significant update for all VR players early this morning: the arrival of Steam VR 2.0. Yes, it's true that the beta was already available since September, but the company has once again chosen to follow the same pattern as a month ago: just as the beta was launched without warning, the same has happened again with the final version.

In a comprehensive post published on Steam, Valve specifies that with this version, “we bring all the exciting advancements of the platform into virtual reality.” “This is our first major step in the ongoing effort to better unify the Steam ecosystem for all users, providing a more consistent experience across all devices. This update allows us to add new Steam features to the future more quickly and frequently,” they stated.

The arrival of Steam VR 2.0 you have been a long time coming. To give you an idea, Valve discussed this review in 2019, meaning four years ago, they communicated that they were “working hard” to bring it to players. We've had to wait all this time to finally have it among us, a testament to the complexity the company faced in its development.

Up until now, Valve's forays into virtual reality have not been very significant in terms of hardware. The most we have are rumors that the company is working on a new headset to compete with the rest, something that should be taken very seriously, especially after the success of Steam Deck.

However, even though their hardware involvement has been minimal, on the gaming front, we have enjoyed one of the most significant works in the industry: Half-Life: Alyx. If you have a VR headset, play it. It's a delight.
