James Gunn has a very challenging task: to breathe new life into the DC Comics universe in movies and series. He will leave behind the recent failures the studio has faced since Zack Snyder created his own universe, which culminated in Batman V Superman and Justice League.
To leave behind this tragic past and create something exciting once again, Gunn has already announced a whopping ten projects, and he will be directing the first one of them: Superman Legacy. The film, which will tell a new Superman story, has already confirmed its first actors: Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent.
Now, Gunn has announced the addition of three more actors to the cast. What’s interesting is that they won’t be portraying the usual Superman characters but other superheroes who will be part of the movie. That’s right: the DC universe will kick off with superheroes existing in that world, and we will witness it in Superman Legacy.
Which superheroes will appear in Superman Legacy?
The actors who have been confirmed for the film are Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and Edi Gathegi. Fillion is well-known to many for his roles in Castle, Firefly, and numerous movies. In the DC universe, he will portray Guy Gardner, a Green Lantern, thus establishing that these characters exist within this universe.
As for Isabela Merced, the actress from Transformers: The Last Knight, she will be portraying Hawkgirl. In Black Adam, we already saw Hawkman (whose return is yet to be confirmed), and Hawkgirl is the female counterpart who has had significant prominence in DC Comics, sometimes even surpassing Hawkman in importance.
Finally, Edi Gathegi, known for X-Men: First Class and Caged, will portray Mr. Terrific, a superhero frequently seen in the comics but rarely explored in-depth. Undoubtedly, Gunn’s touch is already noticeable in the casting choices for the film.
