Tesla’s recent performance in the European automotive market has raised alarms, as the company reported a staggering 43% decline in deliveries for the year.
In February 2025, Tesla delivered just 16,888 vehicles, a significant drop from 28,182 units in February 2024. Over the first two months of the year, total deliveries reached 26,619 units, down 42.6% compared to the same period last year.
Against a backdrop of a broader 3.4% decline in overall automotive sales across Europe, Tesla’s fall stands in stark contrast to the rising tide of battery-electric vehicle (BEV) sales, which surged by 28.4% this year, totaling 255,489 units.

This surge allowed BEVs to capture 15.2% of the total EU automotive market share. Major markets such as Germany and Belgium reported impressive increases of 41% and 38%, respectively, underscoring Tesla’s struggles relative to its competitors.
Industry analysts suggest that Tesla’s decline may be partially attributed to the transition to the new design of the Model Y; however, the Model 3’s performance has also seen a notable downturn across most European markets.
Despite hopes among Tesla enthusiasts that the situation might resolve with the rollout of the updated Model Y, the reality remains grim, with early March figures revealing only 655 deliveries in Sweden compared to 2,524 units in March 2024.
With 20,000 units already lost in the first two months alone, market forecasts indicate that Tesla could face an additional reduction of up to 30,000 units by the end of the first quarter when compared to last year’s performance.
These ongoing challenges place Tesla as the worst performer among automobile manufacturers in Europe—a concerning trend for a company that once led the charge in electric vehicle innovation.
