Tesla has recently launched a refreshed Model Y in China, which includes an updated design and improved features that bring it closer to the new Model 3.
The company has confirmed that it can deliver new orders of the rear-wheel drive (RWD) Model Y within 2 to 4 weeks, while the Long Range AWD model may take between 6 and 10 weeks to complete deliveries.
Despite the promises of speed in deliveries, questions arise about the demand for this new model. Rumors indicate that Tesla had received hundreds of thousands of orders, which would be a significant milestone given the production capacity of the best-selling electric vehicles.
Tesla deliveries in 2025 have decreased more than ever
However, the updated Tesla configurator has raised doubts about the veracity of those rumors, suggesting that there may be a demand issue, especially for the RWD version of the Model Y.
The insurance data analysis shows that Tesla deliveries in 2025 have decreased by approximately 7,000 units compared to the same period last year.
This decline can be attributed to the change in the Model Y, which could negatively impact the company’s financial results in the first quarter of this year. Uncertainty remains regarding the magnitude of this impact.
To reach levels similar to last year, Tesla will need to deliver more than 50,000 vehicles in March. Although production seems to be progressing as planned, demand appears to be the decisive factor in delivery performance.
In response to the demand situation for the Model 3, Tesla is working to activate all possible mechanisms that contribute to the success of the sedan, but all signs point to the new Model Y being the true differentiator in the market.
