The 2024 Oscars awards have been memorable, finally boosting Christopher Nolan’s career with Oppenheimer and earning Emma Stone her second award as a leading actress for Poor Things. But not everyone can be happy with the ceremony, as great films have been overshadowed by others. These are the losing (and forgotten) films that have hurt the most.

Killers of the Flower Moon

The latest film by Martin Scorsese received up to 11 nominations… and didn’t win any awards. Although it seemed that the film would win in some categories such as soundtrack, editing or best leading actress, it was ultimately overshadowed by Oppenheimer.

Barbie

The nominations for Barbie were not bad at all, getting a total of 8. Of all of them, she finally won an Oscar for the best song: What was I made for? by Billie Eilish. Not bad for a movie whose intentions were not, by any means, to succeed at the Oscars.

Maestro

Despite his crazy campaign, Bradley Cooper also didn’t win anything with his Maestro. The Netflix movie had 8 nominations, but none convinced the Academy.

Past Lives

Another gem that has gone empty-handed this year is Past Lives, which had two Oscar nominations but did not win any. Nevertheless, considering that it is a debut film, surely its director will end up sweeping in the future.

Society of the Snow

The wonder of J.A. Bayona also had two nominations, but no statuette has finally gone to Spain. The next one will be, for sure.
