One Piece is an unprecedented saga worldwide. Eiichiro Oda’s manga has been conquering millions of people around the world for decades, and has shown that all its spin-offs – anime, movies, and live action – work just as well. However, due to being on screen for so many years and being such a long series, it was recently announced that the anime would have a remake by Netflix and Wit Studio… and it looks spectacular.
As we saw in the first images of conceptual art published the other day, the anime The One Piece will have a much more careful artistic direction than the original, and not only that: there will also be blood. Although the original anime tried to adapt the manga arcs well, violence and blood were heavily censored from the beginning, as we can see in the following image, and that is something that will not be repeated in the new anime.
Blood and emotion!
As clarified in the image starring Sanji, they will not be afraid to show blood… something that was heavily censored in the previous anime. “The themes in the original manga are deep. Like war, or it delves into some racial themes. It allows readers of all ages to reflect on it and also be entertained at the same time. It’s the most intriguing part of the manga, in my opinion,” explains director Masashi Koizuka, making it clear that they will not hold back in showing the cruelty that also appears in the manga.
“It’s fascinating. But, each of the characters has a very strong story and has lived interesting lives,” adds Koizuka. “Like when Nami pushes Luffy, but then asks for his help because she can’t go on. Although it’s a very early part of the story, I like it and I don’t want to change it too much compared to the original manga.”
