Many people think that in fighting video games, the story matters the least, but the reality behind them is that fighting games have incredible plots revolving around their characters, each one more interesting than the last. The latest one features Mortal Kombat 1 as the protagonist, but what’s most important is that its director has confirmed a crazy theory that has been circulating in the minds of fans for quite some time.

Let’s break it down, as the matter is a bit intricate. Since the game was first shown, it didn’t take a keen eye to notice that Sub-Zero and Scorpion not only had a different look but also didn’t quite fit into some concepts. And this is where things start to get complicated, indeed.

The fact that Scorpion and Sub-Zero don’t particularly get along is well-known to anyone who has played Mortal Kombat at some point. Historically, Scorpio was Hanzo Hasashi, Sub-Zero was Kuai Liang, and Noob Saibot was Bi-Han. However, the altered reality of this new installment changes the roles of these two main characters.

As we mentioned in the first paragraph, it was Dominic Cianciolo, the director of the story for Mortal Kombat 1, who confirmed to IGN that the identity of these characters is being altered for this occasion. Now, Scorpion is going to be Kuai Liang, while Sub-Zero is Bi-Han. And yes, brace yourself: they are going to be blood brothers. Quite a twist, isn’t it?

Of course, this completely changes everything we knew about Mortal Kombat 1, but that’s the uniqueness of this new installment that we’ll have among us on September 19th.
