When it comes to downloadable content, players often raise an eyebrow. It’s a common reaction, as DLCs have become a tool to extract more money from consumers without necessarily providing real added value. However, it’s important to give credit to the companies that put effort into creating good downloadable content, as is the case with From Software and their latest game, Elden Ring.
If there’s one thing the Japanese studio is known for, it’s that their DLCs tend to have high levels of quality. They aren’t just a simple skin or an additional weapon and that’s it, but they contribute a lot to the universe that has been created. Regarding Elden Ring, the game was released at the beginning of 2022 and announced a DLC for which we still don’t have any gameplay or an official release date, but From Software has reassured all players in a recent financial report.
Its parent company, Kadokawa, has pointed out that, although “the release date for the Elden Ring DLC is not yet available, development is progressing smoothly.” Additionally, the company notes that they are “working diligently” on the DLC, but they won’t announce a release date until they have the capacity to do so properly.
It’s worth noting that this downloadable content for Elden Ring already has a name, “Shadow of the Erdtree,” as well as a very beautiful first promotional image. Beyond that, we don’t have any details or additional information, so we’ll have to wait to learn more.
To date, Elden Ring has sold 20 million copies worldwide. The number is likely much higher since this figure was reported in February 2023, just as Elden Ring celebrated its first year on the market. Initially, the DLC will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and PC.
