James McAvoy has proven to be an actor capable of playing both the kindest character—such as Charles Xavier in X-Men or the faun in The Chronicles of Narnia—and the most insane psychopath—as in Split and Glass. Now, he has returned to this latter role with Speak No Evil, a psychological horror film that will be released on September 13th in theaters.

In Speak No Evil, what starts as an idyllic family weekend between an American and British family quickly turns into a psychological nightmare where no one knows exactly what is happening. Undoubtedly, the movie is highly anticipated, but what do the critics say?

Speak No Evil succeeds on Rotten Tomatoes

Speak No Evil, which, by the way, is a remake of a Danish film from 2022, has premiered with a not insignificant 89% positive review on Rotten Tomatoes. And here are some of the things they say about the highly anticipated movie:

James McAvoy’s unrestrained performance elevates this new version of a slow-burn and terrifying thriller” – Casey Chong, Casey’s Movie Mania

“For an audience going in completely blind, there may be jumps and surprises that work very well as a chilling tale in the West Country” – Nadine Whitney, The Curb

“Speak No Evil is a film for those who are unfamiliar with the original or who are simply eager to see a daring Hollywood thriller, albeit a simple one. But don’t expect to lose sleep after watching it. For that, stick with the original” – Brian Eggert, Deep Focus

“Speak No Evil will make you scream at the screen, but not out of fear but out of the pleasure of having a good conversation. I liked Speak No Evil, I think some people will agree and others will hate it” – Zach Pope
