Wargaming, known for its success with titles like World of Tanks, has designed Steel Hunters as a tactical combat game that integrates mech elements. This new project stands out for its focus on character narrative despite being a shooter, offering a unique strategic gameplay in the genre. Despite its sci-fi appearance, Steel Hunters is based on tactical combat principles that Wargaming has perfected over more than a decade.

The game features a main mode that combines elements of battle royale and extraction shooter, where teams of two players must compete for resources and hold an extraction point for 60 seconds to win. Each character in the game has distinct abilities and characteristics, allowing players to enjoy diverse gaming experiences. For example, Fenris, a quadrupedal character, has the ability to teleport to flank enemies, while Razorside focuses on long-range abilities.

Steel Hunters offers players a sense of weight and strategy. Every move has significant consequences, emphasizing the importance of understanding the environment and collaboration among teammates. According to creative director Sergey Titarenko, although the game started as a prototype of mechs, the decision to focus development on a deeper narrative has brought to life characters that inhabit giant machines and possess human stories.

The launch of Steel Hunters is planned as a free-to-play game, with long-term support plans and the inclusion of additional content to keep players engaged. Wargaming aspires for Steel Hunters to last for more than a decade, similar to its successful World of Tanks, and promises that the game will grow in significant ways after its release.
