As the popularity of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series continues to grow, Disney+ has taken a bold step by renewing the production for a third season even before the premiere of the second. This early announcement is a clear sign of the success the series is having among fans of Rick Riordan’s literary work, which has been a phenomenon in the fantasy genre.
Disney’s Trust in Percy Jackson
The series will follow the journey of Percy Jackson, a young man who is pursued for being accused of stealing Zeus’s Master Bolt. In the first season, the character of Percy, played by Walker Scobell, is introduced, along with his journey towards discovering his identity, accompanied by his friends Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri). Season 1 is based on the first book The Lightning Thief, while the second season will adapt The Sea of Monsters. This second cycle will narrate how Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood to find a world in chaos and face new threats.
The first Percy Jackson movie was released in 2010, but despite its eventual sequel, the efforts to bring the story to the big screen failed to capture the magical essence of the books. However, the Disney+ series has achieved a resurgence, adapting the narrative on screen for the first time in a way that is true to the Greek mythology that Riordan explored so successfully.
The filming of the second season has concluded, but its premiere is not scheduled until December 2025, which means that the highly anticipated third installment could take a while to reach viewers. A specific date for this new season has not been revealed, but fans are excited about the prospect of ‘The Curse of the Titan’ being adapted, thus providing an experience that expands the universe of Percy Jackson.
