The Last of Us is having a fantastic year. Its television adaptation by HBO has been a resounding success, receiving an astounding number of Emmy nominations. Additionally, The Last of Us Part 1 has proven to be a not only competent but also an intriguing remake, effectively addressing the aspects that have aged the least gracefully in the original game. While we still have to wait some time for the second season and the franchise’s multiplayer game appears to have been delayed, that doesn’t mean we won’t be hearing more news about The Last of Us, perhaps sooner than we imagined.

In an interview with BLENDER, the composer of The Last of Us soundtrack, Gustavo Santaolalla, has hinted that we may soon see a new version of The Last of Us Part II.

Although he didn’t provide further details, the composer suggested that in this new version of the game, we may have the opportunity to interact with the character who makes a cameo appearance as himself, located in the city of Jackson. Unlike in the original game, where our interaction with him was very limited, in this new version, we could ask him to play different songs from the game’s soundtrack.

Since Santaolalla hasn’t provided more details about this new version of the game, we can’t know for sure what it entails. It could be simply a Director’s Cut version, but it’s also possible that it’s a remaster for PS5, taking advantage of the console’s power over its predecessor. In any case, it’s expected that this new version will arrive on PlayStation 5 and make use of its capabilities, including support for the DualSense controller, justifying the release of a new edition of the game. But to learn more, we’ll still have to wait, preferably while enjoying the fabulous music of Gustavo Santaolalla.
