Watching the latest trailer for Rebel Moon, I can say that the look of the Netflix project is incredible. Saying that it could overshadow Star Wars might be overly optimistic, but we can certainly assert that Disney should have been more alert.
Snyder’s latest feature film, set to arrive on Netflix on December 22, concluded the schedule of Geeked Week 2023 with a special virtual presentation on Sunday, November 12.
As part of that 30-minute online event, Snyder unveiled the full teaser for the first installment of Rebel Moon, also known as Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire.
Will Rebel Moon succeed? A risky gamble where others have crashed
In our opinion, it could be the new science fiction universe that succeeds in the streaming sector, following the disappointments of Jupiter Ascending, Alita: Battle Angel, or 65.
The initial teaser of Rebel Moon, believed by many to be Snyder and Netflix’s surprisingly intriguing response to Star Wars, didn’t reveal much about its story when it was released in August.
But now, with the new official trailer for A Child of Fire, we have a clearer idea of what to expect from the first of the two new Netflix films co-written and directed by Snyder.
Synopsis of Rebel Moon: Part One
In it, we see Kora, a stranger with a mysterious past who finds a new home among a settlement of farmers on a moon known as Veldt. However, Kora’s peace and that of her new friends are disrupted by the arrival of forces from the tyrannical Motherworld, a universal power similar to the Galactic Empire in Star Wars.
The leaders of the autocracy, Regent Balisarius and his cruel emissary, Admiral Noble, seek revenge on Veldt after its inhabitants involuntarily sold their crops to the Bloodaxes, a group of insurgents pursued by Motherworld.
Determined to protect her new home at any cost, Kora travels across the galaxy to assemble a team of warriors to defend Veldt against seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
Is Rebel Moon the new Star Wars?
Zack Snyder has big plans to turn Rebel Moon into a multi-franchise. The American director revealed his ambitions to develop an animated series, a narrative podcast, an animated comic, and even a video game within the confines of the Rebel Moon universe. And there was a board game.
This, therefore, is just the beginning of a potentially huge new IP that Netflix could back if its first film proves to be a success.
The second part of Rebel Moon will premiere on Netflix on April 19, 2024. Snyder also plans to make a director’s cut of Rebel Moon that will test your limits of duration.
