It seems like yesterday when Mortal Kombat fans’ theories finally came true with the announcement of Mortal Kombat 1. NetherRealm Studios‘ latest title presented us with a complete franchise reboot in which Liu Kang, now the God of Fire, creates a new timeline with a variety of changes.
As we detailed in a previous article, Mortal Kombat 1 is the franchise’s much-needed reboot, featuring significant changes not only in the story but also in gameplay, which have delighted the game’s hardcore fans.
However, as is often the case with triple-A games, there are “things” that users did not like at all. A few days ago, it was revealed that Mortal Kombat 1 would release a new Fatality to celebrate Halloween. Initially well-received by users, it turned into a disappointment when it was announced that this Fatality would be a paid feature.
As confirmed by Warner Bros. Games‘ customer support Twitter account, this new Fatality will be available in the Premium Store of Mortal Kombat 1, where various in-game items can be purchased with real money.
“The Halloween Fatality will appear in the Premium Store at a later date, hopefully on Friday (27/10),” @WBGamesSupport responded to a user’s query. “Stay tuned to Mortal Kombat’s official social media channels for any updates on this.”
While it’s not the first paid content for Mortal Kombat 1, where players can already purchase characters from other franchises like Patriot (The Boys) and Omni-Man (Invincible), as well as the face and voice of Jean-Claude Van Damme as an alternate version of Johnny Cage, it is the first time in this game that something as trivial as a Fatality is being put up for sale instead of being released for free.
At the moment, the price at which the Halloween Fatality will be sold is unknown. It will be available from October 27th, although it’s likely to be very cheap (especially considering the highly negative reactions it has already provoked among fans).
