Game Science, developer of the highly anticipated Soulslike action game, has released a new official benchmark tool for PC of their game Black Myth: Wukong. This tool evaluates the compatibility of your computer before the game’s release on August 20th.
Available as a free download on Steam, the tool takes up just under 8 GB and contains a brief scene from the game world. Like other benchmarking tools, the tool renders the game in real time, using a series of preset options or specific graphic settings you choose, and then displays a screen showing the overall performance results.
Given that Black Myth: Wukong is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and that all the trailers we have seen so far look absolutely stunning, with high-fidelity images and a lot of intense graphic effects, there was a concern that it wouldn’t run too well on somewhat older computers. Luckily, this benchmark has dispelled those fears.
A benchmark that will sell the game to all the undecided
With the recommended high preset (which uses the default FSR super resolution sampling) and a resolution of 1080p, a PC with an RTX 3060 achieved an average of 89 fps throughout the scene. This includes peaks of 102 fps during less demanding moments, as well as some barely noticeable drops to 23 fps.
In fact, the performance remains excellent even when ray tracing is enabled. In that same high preset with ray tracing enabled and set to medium, the average frames per second reached 54 fps with hardly any noticeable drops. Less performance than before, but still playable comfortably and the quality of reflective surfaces, such as river water, improves significantly.
Although it is a good sign that suggests that this is a high-quality adaptation for PC, these results should be taken with caution. As indicated on the benchmark store page, “the complexity and variability of game scenarios” means that “benchmark results may not fully represent the real gaming experience and final performance.”
If you don’t achieve the desired performance in the PC testing tool, keep in mind that Black Myth: Wukong will also be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
