Many people thought that when Ash Ketchum finally won the Pokémon League, the Pokémon anime would end. Of course, that’s not what happened. Ash Ketchum can finally retire from competitive raising of adorable monsters at the age of 12, with 25 years of experience, but that doesn’t mean that the Pokémon universe is limited to its most well-known character. Because the world doesn’t end with Pikachu.
That’s why Netflix has finally released the trailer for the next series in the franchise: Pokémon Horizons: The Series. Although it was originally scheduled to premiere on February 23rd, it will finally be released a few days later, arriving on the streaming platform on February 23rd.
Pokémon Horizons: The Series follows a new duo of protagonists, Liko and Roy, who explore the Paldea region in search of one of the legendary Pokémon, Rayquaza. But they don’t do it alone. To help them, they have a Pokémon professor, Friede, and his partner, Captain Pikachu. As for our protagonists, since they are inspired by the Scarlet and Purple video games, their Pokémon are the three starter Pokémon: Spirigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly.
While it is now reaching the West via Netflix, in Japan they have been enjoying the series for a little longer. Released in April 2023, they are already on their second arc, which premiered on October 27th, so we have plenty of Pokémon Horizons to catch up on.
But this is not something new. The Pokémon anime has always arrived much later to us than the original premiere in Japan. And now we will only have to wait a little over a month to finally catch up and meet the successors of Ash Ketchum, less interested in competition, and more in exploring and getting to know the world of Pokémon. Not without some familiar faces, although they have now taken on different forms.
