Christmas movies are a genre in themselves, and beyond showing stories with Santa Claus or the Three Wise Men as protagonists, they usually take advantage of using Christmas as the backdrop for a beautiful love story. This is the case of You’ve Got Mail, Last Christmas or Carol, and undoubtedly many more that you would all recognize.

Taking advantage of this time of magic and love, Netflix has just released a romantic comedy that is conquering the hearts of everyone who watches it. Its name is Christmas as Usual, it is Norwegian and has managed to climb to the Top 7 of Netflix movies worldwide. But why is it so special?

Experience a different Christmas

The typical Christmas follows Thea (Ida Ursin-Holm) and Jashan (Kanan Gill), a newly engaged couple who are spending their first holiday together when a plot twist that will change their lives arrives. Jashan, who lives in California and is originally from India, has been invited to spend Christmas with Thea’s family in her rural hometown in Norway, but they still have to uncover the truth about his ethnic background, leading to a classic family Christmas drama.

The truth is that, beyond its success on Netflix, its reviews have not been too positive. The movie premiered on Rotten Tomatoes with a public score of 33%, focusing mainly on the fact that the narrative and characters are not sufficiently developed. But who needs development when there is love and Christmas?
