Last year was a disaster for Marvel Studios. After a decade of great success with their movies, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was hit like never before by releases that didn’t meet expectations. From the failure of Secret Invasion to the release of The Marvels, the movie that had the worst performance in their entire universe, it seemed like nothing could lift the studio up. That’s why they put almost all their live-action projects on hold… except one.
Deadpool & Wolverine, the third installment of the Merc with a Mouth, will arrive on July 25th. As the title suggests, this time the protagonist will be accompanied by Wolverine, and he will do so by recovering his original yellow suit. The movie looks to be the salvation of the MCU at a time when it couldn’t be any lower, and its trailer makes it very clear that it will live up to expectations.
An unexpected duo
In the trailer, we can see the fateful relationship between both characters, who are inseparable in the comics but have more clashes than anything else. Undoubtedly, the duo seems spectacular, and the action seems to accompany it. Among other details, we can see the gigantic corpse of Ant-Man, which serves as a hideout for the villain Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin), and we can also see other characters like the return of Vanessa (Morena Baccarin).
As indicated by the official synopsis, the movie focuses on Wolverine, who is recovering from his injuries when he crosses paths with the talkative Deadpool, who has traveled back in time to heal him in the hopes of becoming friends and forming a team to defeat a common enemy. It will be the introduction of both characters into the MCU, and it seems to be Hugh Jackman’s last movie as Wolverine. But we also said that with Logan and here we are… so we’ll have to see.
