The highly anticipated second season of The Last of Us will premiere on April 13 on Max, and the plot previews indicate a dark and tense future for the protagonists Joel and Ellie. Some years after the events of the first season, the relationship between them has deteriorated as they try to survive in Wyoming, an environment that reflects the desolation of the world around them.
A new season that promises more intensity
The trailer for the new season reveals an increase in the intensity of danger, with the appearance of stalkers, a fast and deadly variant of infected that was not present in the first part of the series, but is well known in the original video game. This horror element promises to raise the tension, as stalkers are one of the most chilling threats in the game universe.
Additionally, although the first season omits the spores —a crucial aspect in the game that contaminates the characters—, in this second installment, there is a notable return. A new form of contagion involving corpses is introduced, adding a layer of complexity to the narrative and the universe of the series. According to co-creator Neil Druckmann, the shift towards a more realistic approach during the first season limited the use of spores, but now this concept is being revisited, suggesting a terrifying evolution of the fungus that causes the infection.
The end of the first season hinted at a secret of Joel that will greatly affect his relationship with Ellie. In the trailer for the new season, an intriguing dialogue anticipates that this secret will be revealed: “Don’t you know what he did?” Additionally, Eugene is introduced, a character played by Joe Pantoliano, whose story will develop similarly to Bill’s in the first season, providing more depth to his role.
