The tragedy is confirmed: Megalopolis debuts on Rotten Tomatoes with a lamentable rating

There are directors who, no matter how many years go by, continue to be as active as ever, releasing impressive works that endure over time despite the advanced age of their filmmakers. This is the case, for example, with Ridley Scott, Clint Eastwood or Martin Scorsese. But unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be the same for Francis Ford Coppola.

While there was a time when everyone praised the director of The Godfather and when he was able to move forward with films like Bram Stoker’s Dracula, in recent years his career has deflated, to the point that, for his latest film, Megalopolis, he had to put almost everything out of his own pocket. Now, this film has premiered at the Cannes Film Festival… and the reviews make it clear that it doesn’t live up to its director.

Coppola tries but doesn’t succeed

As the just over twenty reviews on Rotten Tomatoes point out, Megalopolis is a failed movie. The film started with only a 38% approval rating and, although it has now risen to 50%, it doesn’t seem to be the great work that was expected as the director’s final masterpiece. A disappointment that, however, we will have to wait and see for ourselves.
