There is no doubt that Sofia Coppola is a very special director. The daughter of Francis Ford Coppola proved long ago that she is much more than her heritage, and she is the author of top-notch historical works such as Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette or The Virgin Suicides. But her next film could surpass all of them in a surprising way.

The movie in question is Priscilla, and it is a biopic that very few expected: it tells the story of Priscilla Presley, Elvis’ wife. Just two years after Austin Butler portrayed the famous character of popular culture, Coppola is determined to release a film that serves as a counterpart to it. And its trailer promises to turn the tables:

Everything seems to indicate that it will be a big hit

Like everything good that has been released lately, the movie is produced by A24, the studio behind Everything Everywhere All at Once and Kristen Stewart’s upcoming LGTBIQ+ film. In the case of Priscilla, the protagonists couldn’t be more anticipated. Cailee Spaeny (Mare of Easttown) will play this woman, and the role of Elvis Presley will be played by one of the industry’s hottest actors: Jacob Elordi. After Saltburn and Euphoria, Elordi is poised to jump into awards season with his portrayal of the King of Rock.

Priscilla will arrive in theaters on February 14th, taking advantage of Valentine’s Day, with a great trajectory behind it. Thanks to the film, Cailee Spaeny won the Volpi Cup at the Venice International Film Festival in the Best Actress category. Beyond this, the critics have embraced Coppola’s new film, so it will undoubtedly be an interesting perspective on the life of Elvis and company.
