December 7 will be the last day you can enjoy Netflix’s Voltron: Legendary Defender, which was the platform’s first exclusive animated series, in collaboration with Dreamworks, and one of the longest-running science fiction shows in its catalog. With eight seasons and 78 episodes, this epic mecha animated series is already a classic of the genre, and its departure from Netflix will mark a before and after on the platform.

These lions can also combine to form a colossal robot designed to fight against the evil Galra Empire. In terms of battles, we’re well covered.
Goodbye to the series, hello to the movie
Since its premiere in 2016, the series has been acclaimed by both critics and audiences, achieving a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes and maintaining a loyal audience season after season. However, the licensing agreement between Netflix and DreamWorks, the series’ producer, is about to expire. If it is not renewed, Voltron: Legendary Defender will be removed from the catalog, leaving its followers without access to this work.
Although the first six seasons will remain available for purchase on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, the final seasons will be much harder to obtain, which adds urgency to enjoy it before its departure.
Despite this farewell, the legacy of Voltron continues to live on thanks to an upcoming live-action movie being developed by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Red Notice) for Amazon MGM Studios. This ambitious project, which will feature actors like Henry Cavill and Daniel Quinn-Toye, promises to revive the iconic story of the robotic lions in a new format. Although the release is scheduled for 2026, no further details about the production have been confirmed yet.
