The Call of Duty franchise has left some of us a bit bewildered in recent years. The rapid pace of releases is quite high for those of us who are a bit older, and it’s compounded by each game having a different mode: whether it’s zombies, Battle Royale, or numbered games…
But we have good news: if you haven’t bought the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 yet but want to try its multiplayer mode, you’re in luck! Activision has announced that, for a limited time, there will be a free access period.
Specifically, the Free Access period begins tomorrow (December 14th) at 1 pm ET / 10 am PT / 6 pm GMT (in Spain at 7 pm on Thursday the 14th) and will last until the same time on December 18th, giving you four days to play.
What can we try in Modern Warfare 3 during the free weekend?
In the blog post detailing the event, it’s stated that “an additional download is required to play,” although the size of this download is not clear at the moment. Just to be safe, make sure to have a few gigabytes free.
Regarding what players can try out, it has been confirmed that, apart from the new map for the First Season, Carne (which, as expected from its name, is set in a slaughterhouse), players will be able to try out the 6v6 maps: Envío, Rascacielos, Terminal, Afgano, and Óxido.
There’s also the opportunity to try out Ground War, featuring three maps: Levin Resort, Orlov Military Base, and Popov Power. Additionally, players can test Hardpoint, Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination, and War.
On the other hand, those eager to try out Modern Warfare 3’s Zombies mode are also in luck, as the Free Access period allows players to delve into the Deadbolt Operation and gear up with “Wonder Weapons” like the Ray Gun to stylishly take down enemies.
Overall, the game playlists are as follows: “Rustment 24/7 (Shipment and Rust), War Mode, 6v6 Moshpit (with Highrise, Meat, Afghan, Terminal), Ground War, Modern Warfare Zombies.”
Since its release last month, Modern Warfare 3 hasn’t exactly received critical acclaim, with an average score of 56 on Metacritic. This places it as one of the worst COD games in history.
