In its day, ‘Call of Duty‘ was synonymous with bestsellers, but not only that: the Activision series has always stood out for its continuous reinvention, contributions to FPS, and thrilling campaigns, both solo and online. However, ‘Modern Warfare III’ came determined to earn the hatred of the Internet and tarnish the good name (well, more or less) of the franchise. But what happened? Why is no one liking it? What is the reason for having everyone on the Internet against it?

The Call of Duty

You might be thinking, “But didn’t ‘Modern Warfare 3‘ already come out in 2011?” Indeed, it did. However, this is another game from the same series with the same title, completely different. Although, for its own good, and after having seen the single-player campaign, they would have been better off with a remake of the original. Apparently, and to no one’s surprise, rushing it out has only brought problems.

Firstly, purely technical issues: last week, some players attempted to play only to find their PS5 asking for the ‘Modern Warfare II‘ disc. Moreover, even the trophy list is listed as a DLC for that game. So, all the rumors indicating that this was originally a simple expansion of its predecessor turned into a standalone game with its own title were absolutely correct. Unbelievable.

But if ‘Modern Warfare III’ were good, we would quickly overlook these kinds of defects. The problem is that its much-touted single-player campaign, where an open world was promised, doesn’t function as it should, isn’t exciting, and, worst of all, the plot lacks any interest. Sure, most people buy ‘Call of Duty’ for the multiplayer, but if the campaign is going to be full of bugs, last only three hours, and not even include a few memorable missions… the story tells itself.

Players of ‘Call of Duty‘ who have the game early due to pre-order (officially releasing on Friday the 10th) are warning that it’s not worth it, and this buzz might impact the sales of a franchise that has been at the top of the charts for two decades and hasn’t missed a year with a new release since 2005. Moreover, there are quite a few who feel that with the current global situation, playing a game like this is nothing short of disrespectful. Is there a future for the saga… or is this the first nail in its coffin?
