You may not have heard of Warframe for a while, but it’s still going strong. In fact, it has already surpassed a decade as a free game and is available on all consoles, from PS4 to Xbox Series X/S, and it continues to grow, with over 50 million registered players. And now we have learned that its latest major update changed at the last minute thanks to… Baldur’s Gate 3.
Ah, romance
No one would deny that Baldur’s Gate 3 is an incredible game and a milestone for Larian, but all the fans on social media are discussing its romances. How to flirt with characters, how to sleep with another, etc. And of course, at Digital Extremes, they saw a gold mine that they didn’t want to miss: they always wanted to put some kind of romance system in the game, but they never saw the right time to implement it… until Larian showed that drama moves the world.
‘The success of Baldur’s Gate and its romance system made us say ‘Okay, people want this kind of fantasy’. It was the boost we needed and I appreciate it, it was one of the best gaming experiences of my life,’ said Rebecca Ford, its creative director. Soon we will be able to see this in Warframe: 1999, an update that is a fantasy for all those who miss (well, we miss it) that decade.
And in addition to a romance system, we will have a soundtrack in line with the era, final bosses inspired by boy bands, and a handful of impossible and wonderful oddities that make it one of the strangest MMOs in the world. In fact, do you wonder how they have implemented the flirting system? Well, through a 90s-style Messenger. Of course. That’s how it’s done.
