Installing Windows 11 from scratch is a great way to ensure a clean and optimized system. However, some default settings may not be ideal for everyone. Adjusting these options can help improve performance, reduce distractions, and create a smoother user experience. Here are three settings worth reviewing after a fresh installation.
Disable notification sounds to reduce distractions
By default, Windows 11 enables notification sounds, which can be annoying and disruptive, especially when working. If you prefer a quieter environment, you can disable these sounds by going to Settings > Notifications and unchecking the option for “Allow notifications to play sounds.” This ensures that notifications appear visually without interrupting your workflow.
Turn off animation effects for a smoother experience
Windows 11 includes various animation effects that make transitions look more polished. However, these effects can slightly slow down the system, particularly on older or less powerful devices. To disable them, navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Visual effects, and switch off “Animation effects.” This tweak can make your system feel faster and more responsive.
Adjust pointer precision for better control
Windows 11 includes an enhanced pointer precision setting that modifies mouse sensitivity based on movement speed. While it can be useful for some, it often leads to inconsistent cursor behavior. To turn it off, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse > Additional mouse settings. In the “Pointer Options” tab, uncheck “Enhance pointer precision.” This adjustment provides more consistent and predictable cursor movement.
Checking these three settings after installing Windows 11 can help create a more comfortable and efficient experience, ensuring that the system works exactly as you need it to.
