The Javis are two of the most popular directors in Spain, and they have earned this reputation through their recent productions. They recently premiered The Mesías, a series in which they have shown that they are more than just two guys who know how to do comedy perfectly. And now, Vestidas de azul is about to be released, a sequel that they produce but do not direct, to their previous hit series: Veneno.

In 2020, the Javis entertained the end of the pandemic with this biopic series about Cristina Ortiz, La Veneno, one of the first trans figures to become pop culture in our country. And, through this series and a subsequent documentary by the writer of the original book, Valeria Vegas, they decided to take a step further by showing other queer realities with Vestidas de azul.

What is Vestidas de azul about?

Beyond telling just one story, Vestida de azul is the compilation of many trans and LGBTQI+ activists who have experienced their own stories during the 20th century in Spain. The series will have two parallel plots, just like in Veneno. On one hand, there is the story of Valeria, the protagonist and journalist who discovered Cristina Ortiz’s story. After publishing her book, she investigates for her new work: “Vestidas de azul. Social and cinematographic analysis of transgender women during the Spanish Transition years“.

On the other hand, there is the part of recounting the past of all the women and trans activists who appear throughout the series. We will see deeper stories of women we already met in Veneno, like Paca la piraña, and we will delve into other figures still unknown to the public.

Cast and Crew of Vestidas de azul

The main protagonist of Vestidas de azul is once again Lola Rodríguez, who plays the journalist Valeria Vegas. But alongside her, Paca la piraña, Marisa Paredes, Susana Abaitua, Elena Irureta, Anabel Alonso, Pedro Casablanc, Estrella Xtravaganza, and Luis Callejo will shine with their own light.

In the direction and script team there are familiar faces from Veneno: Mikel Rueda and Claudia Costafreda, in addition to the newly joined Ian de la Rosa.

Trailer and release date of Vestidas de azul

The next December 17th, Vestidas de azul will premiere on the streaming platform Atresplayer Premium. Below you can watch the full trailer to get to know its protagonists:

Undoubtedly, it seems that we are facing a new trendy series under the label of the Javis.
