Saving time while booking flights is no longer a luxury—Google’s Gemini AI now offers a personalized way to do it instantly. Thanks to a feature called Gems, users can create tailored assistants that simplify repetitive tasks, such as finding the cheapest flights.
Gems let you automate flight searches with personalized prompts
Gems are customizable shortcuts that let Gemini behave exactly how you want it to, eliminating the need to retype complex instructions every time. Instead of crafting a detailed prompt from scratch, you can create a Gem that remembers your preferences and executes the task in seconds.
For example, a user created a Gem that automatically searches for the cheapest direct flights from Málaga or Madrid, using Google Flights as the data source. The prompt instructs Gemini to act like a professional travel agent focused on affordability, direct connections, and fast results.
Google opens Gems to all users
While Gems were initially exclusive to paying subscribers, Google now offers this feature for free, allowing anyone to personalize Gemini on Android, iOS, or web. This shift is part of a broader strategy to keep up with competition and boost user engagement through flexibility and speed.
Creating a Gem is simple: visit the official Gemini site, go to the “Gem manager,” and input a prompt describing what you want. Once saved, this custom assistant is ready to use at any time, directly within the Gemini interface.
Although there are still some limitations—such as no support for image generation or Gemini Live—Gems offer a fast, efficient way to automate daily tasks, especially when you know exactly what you need.
