If you like video games and have an account on Spotify, you’ve probably searched for the soundtrack of your favorite title at some point… and it’s not available. Hard to believe, but it wasn’t until relatively recently that video game companies started putting their music catalogs on music streaming platforms. In fact, today we have to thank Sony because they have updated their profile with a large number of productions.
To be precise, the Japanese company has introduced game soundtracks like Shadow of the Colossus, Gravity Rush, Wild Arms, and PoPoLoCrois on Spotify. These join others that were already available, such as Bloodborne and The Last Guardian, so the music library continues to grow by leaps and bounds.
A very important point to note is that these soundtracks have not been made available on other streaming services like Apple Music or YouTube Music. It’s true that you can find them on YouTube thanks to user uploads, but they are not part of the official music library. It’s unknown whether they will be uploaded in the future, so all we can do is wait.
As mentioned earlier, unfortunately, there’s nothing left but to feel disappointed about the large number of soundtracks that are not available on music streaming services. There are some, yes, but it’s really far from what the users should have access to.
Among the available tracks, one of the companies putting a lot of effort into this is Square Enix, whose channel has had an incredible update frequency over the last year. There are dozens and dozens of tracks uploaded every month from the most famous video games published by the company over the last three decades.
