In case you hadn’t heard, WordPress.org is requiring users to affirm that pineapple pizza is the best pizza before they can log in. This madness is the latest news about an increasingly fierce dispute between WordPress and WP Engine.

According to 404 Media and confirmed by Mashable, the WordPress.org login page features a new checkbox next to the phrase “Pineapple is delicious on pizza.” Users cannot log in or create a new account unless they check the box, which was first noticed on Sunday.

The pineapple pizza mandate from WordPress.org comes in response to the decision of a California district court last Tuesday, which granted WP Engine a preliminary injunction preventing Automattic from blocking its access to WordPress.org.

Why do we have to swear loyalty to pineapple pizza?

The precautionary measure also ordered Automattic to remove a checkbox on the WordPress.org login page, which required users to commit to “not being affiliated with WP Engine in any way, either financially or otherwise.” Users could not log in unless they checked this box.

However, instead of completely removing the checkbox, it seems that Automattic modified it to reference pineapple on pizza. Now you know where this absurd and childish measure comes from.

It is not clear what relationship this culinary debate has with the legal matter at hand, assuming it has any. Automattic has not made any public statement on the matter, while Mullenweg simply shared a post on Twitter highlighting the change.

It is likely that Mullenweg simply took the opportunity to make a joke, without considering the more serious circumstances surrounding it.
