Lately, it seems that we spend more time apologizing to influencers than actually doing their job, to the point where the apology letter format has become a full-fledged meme for various reasons, always accompanied by the less sincere “if someone was offended, it was not my intention.” Ironically, the latest to fall victim to this trend has been Censor. Censor censored. Life’s ironies.

Call of slurs

On October 16th, Doug Martin, better known as “Censor,” was playing a live stream of ‘Call Of Duty MWII.’ So far, so good: a two-time American champion of a video game playing the game itself. Logical. The problem arose when things started going wrong, and he ended up uttering profanities in front of his Twitch channel, watched by nearly 300,000 people. Good idea, Censor.

“I don’t respect you, period. You suck in the game, bitch, screw you, unfollow me on social media too, damn faggot.” No, it’s not a computer voice speaking, nor a scene from ‘South Park,’ but a 29-year-old man playing a game. Maturity? Etiquette? Who needs that when you have insults and tantrums? To no one’s surprise, and after contacting his PR team, Censor rushed to Twitter to apologize and shed a river of tears.

“I have to be honest with myself and say this now. If I had waited, it wouldn’t sound right. If you understand, I appreciate it, but if not, I understand that too. I know this is the only way to move forward,” the streamer posted, acknowledging that he had said a word he shouldn’t have. Instead of simply not saying it, he found it more profitable to stage this whole act.

The famous gamer stated that he wasn’t proud or happy but disappointed with himself because it’s not something he advocates or says in his private life. However, on the other hand, if you never say it, it doesn’t just slip out during a live stream magically. Well, the audience seems to have quickly forgiven Censor, who is gearing up to become the oldest ‘Call of Duty‘ champion in history. Let’s see if he can achieve it without insulting anyone.
