Will Borderlands 4 work after a disaster for its premiere in theaters?
The game will be available on Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation 5, and PC

One of the most repeated comments during the last few hours: there couldn’t be a worse time to announce Borderlands 4 than right now. And reason is not without reason, it must be said, since the movie based on the popular video game has been a tremendous failure, with already a 4 out of 10 rating on average on websites like Metacritic.
Given this situation, it is normal to wonder if 2K has chosen the right scenario to showcase Borderlands 4. Perhaps it would have been better to wait a little longer for things to calm down, as it has only been a few weeks since the movie was released. However, let’s focus on the positive: Borderlands 4 is a reality and will be released in 2025.
After many rumors about the game, 2K and Gearbox have confirmed that Borderlands 4 will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S, and PC next year. There is no specific date, so we will have to wait for future announcements to know it (or even to find out if it gets delayed, something that is never ruled out).
Announced during the opening ceremony of Gamescom, Randy Pitchford, founder and president of Gearbox, later had some words about the development: ‘The team and I at Gearbox wanted to do many things with Borderlands since we first introduced the looter shooter genre to the world with our original game. We all at Gearbox have huge ambitions for Borderlands 4 and we are giving everything we have to make everything we love about Borderlands better than ever, while taking the game to new levels in new and exciting directions.’
Beyond the 87 million units sold by the franchise, we have no confirmation of anything else about the fourth installment. Releasing it in 2025 is actually the best thing that can happen to dissociate from a movie that has been a failure.
